The MTN Premier League’s top scorers’ race is heating up and Young Buffaloes’ lanky forward Phiwa ‘Slwabelwabe’ Dlamini is making his mark.
His latest goal in Buffaloes’ 4-2 triumph over Moneni Pirates at Mavuso Sports Centre on Sunday has propelled him to second place in the league’s goal-scoring charts.
Dlamini’s consistency sees him tied at 10 goals with Royal Leopard’s Junior Magagula, as they both chase the prolific Green Mamba talisman, Sabelo ‘Sikhali’ Ndzinisa, who remains the league’s top scorer with an impressive 16 goals. However, ‘Sikhali’ has now gone two games without finding the back of the net, leaving the chasing pack eager to close the gap.
Bhekani Mthembu of Ezulwini United follows closely with nine goals, keeping the race for the Golden Boot wide open.
Meanwhile, Felix Badenhorst of Royal Leopard also made his presence felt over the weekend, netting a brace against Ezulwini United to take his tally to eight goals.
Ndzinisa, who is the reigning top scorer after bagging 20 goals last season, still holds a strong lead. However, with ten matches left in the season, the likes of ‘Slwabelwabe’ and Magagula could mount a serious challenge if their form continues. Badenhorst, known for his big-game performances, remains a dark horse in the race.
