Yebantfu Eswatini has officially launched its operations in partnership with Booyco Electronics, a leading South African provider renowned for its advanced mine safety technologies.
This is a significant advancement for the mining and construction sector.
This collaboration is set to revolutionise safety measures across various industries, particularly in mining, milling and construction, where mobile equipment is prevalent.
Yebantfu Eswatini specialises in proximity detection systems (PDS) and collision avoidance systems (CAS).
These cutting-edge technologies are designed to enhance safety by preventing accidents involving moving machinery. The company also offers a comprehensive suite of solutions, including HVAC systems, conveyor belt system components, turnkey communication systems for underground environments and fail-safe braking systems.

During the launch event held at Happy Valley hotel on Wednesday, the company's Director, Lutfo Dlamini, emphasised the importance of collaborating with local mining companies. “I want to encourage our mining companies to collaborate with us. We are ready to start supplying and eventually, we will begin manufacturing in Eswatini,” he said.
Dlamini highlighted the critical role these technologies play in ensuring safety and reducing accidents in mines.
Dlamini also pointed out the potential job creation and increased revenue for the sector.
He expressed confidence that this partnership would lead to local production of essential safety equipment in the near future. “ If Booyco expands to manufacture their offerings in the country, they can leverage the many trade agreements Eswatini has with other nations,” he added. Booyco Electronics Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Anton Lourens, reinforced the commitment to mine safety during his address.
He said Booyco Electronics was a pioneer in PDS, also known as CWS, designed to ensure the safety of mine workers and equipment. Their PDS technology uses wearable tags for pedestrians and drivers as well as VLF antennae on vehicles and static danger zones to detect proximity and prevent collisions.
Booyco's PDS offers vehicle-to-vehicle and vehicle-to-pedestrian detection, ensuring comprehensive safety measures.
The company is focused on ensuring compliance with South African proximity detection and collision prevention systems requirements.
They offer solutions for both underground and surface mining, with a focus on level seven, level eight and level nine safety levels.
The company also offers a BEAMS software suite to analyse data from the PDS and identify patterns that indicate unsafe behaviour or unproductive use of assets.
“Booyco Electronics emphasises the importance of training and support to ensure the effective implementation and adoption of their PDS solutions. While primarily serving the mining sector, the flexibility of their systems makes them adaptable to a wide range of applications and industries, including energy and utilities.
This joint venture represents a step forward in the modernisation and industrialisation of the mining sector. As much as mining has been with us for several years, the demand for resources continues to put pressure on technology providers to innovate,” Lourens stated.
He said this collaboration between Yebantfu Eswatini and Booyco Electronics not only brings state-of-the-art safety solutions to the region but also fosters local expertise and skills transfer, paving the way for a safer and more productive mining industry.
Delivering an address on behalf of the Minister of Labour and Social Security Phila Buthelezi, Chief Occupational Safety and Health Officer Phazi Zwane commended Yebantfu Eswatini and Booyco Electronics for introducing proximity detection systems, which have become essential in modern industry safety measures.
She acknowledged the role of technological advancements in re-shaping workplace safety, urging industries to adopt these innovations to reduce accidents and enhance employee protect
