DEVIL" TATTOO LEADS TO ARREST OF MOST-WANTED ROBBERY SUSPECT AT BORDER

By Sifiso Nhlabatsi | 2025-03-14

A distinctive "Devil" tattoo on his forehead has led to the arrest of a most-wanted robbery suspect at the Gege informal border crossing in Eswatini.

Gcinumuzi Siboniso Magagula was apprehended by Umbutfo Eswatini Defence Force (UEDF) soldiers after they spotted individuals matching descriptions provided by residents of Mazembeni and surrounding communities.

Magagula, along with accomplices, had allegedly committed a series of robberies in the area in September 2024 before fleeing to Piet Retief, South Africa.

Border patrol officers, acting on information about the suspects, noticed individuals fitting the descriptions, including one with several unique tattoos and the word "Devil" prominently displayed on his forehead.

Upon searching the suspects, authorities discovered pellet guns in their possession. Residents confirmed their identities, linking them to the robberies.

Magagula faces multiple charges, including robbery and assault.

The Crown had opposed bail, arguing he was a flight risk due to his escape to South Africa.

However, Judge Bonginkosi Magagula granted bail under strict conditions, including a cash payment, surety, surrender of travel documents, and mandatory reporting to the police.

The suspect's accomplices, who are South African, also face charges of illegal entry into Eswatini. The robberies reportedly involved the use of force and violence, including firearms, against victims in the Mazembeni region.
