MISSING TITLE DEED FOR DIPLOMATIC PROPERTY IN ADDIS ABABA RECOVERED

By Simanga Gamedze | 2025-03-12

Government has successfully recovered the title deed for a diplomatic property in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, which was previously reported missing.

The revelation came in Parliament after Matsanjeni South MP Sabelo Ndlangamandla sought clarification on the property's status from the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Pholile Shakantu.

MP Ndlangamandla inquired about the recovery of the title deed and its current condition, addressing past concerns surrounding the property's ownership documents.

Minister Shakantu confirmed in her response that the Eswatini embassy in Addis Ababa had located the title deed, and the property is now undergoing rehabilitation.

The property, reportedly purchased for approximately E5.5 million in December 2019, had faced complications due to the initial disappearance of the title deed, which prevented it from being registered under government's name.

In addition to the Addis Ababa property, MP Ndlangamandla also raised questions about a house in Johannesburg designated for the use of Eswatini's Consul.

Minister Shakantu assured the MP, through written responses, that the property is currently occupied by the incumbent Consul.

Manzini Regional MP Thandeka Mavuso further questioned the Minister regarding the timeline for deploying additional Defense Attachés to Eswatini's missions abroad.

Currently, only the mission in Addis Ababa has a Defense Attaché.

Minister Shakantu clarified that the deployment and secondment of Defense Attachés fall under the purview of the Ministry of Defence and National Security, which operates on a separate budget from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation.
