Nomalungelo Dladla, a celebrated songbird, entrepreneur and board member at the Eswatini National Youth Council (ENYC) has shared how much on an eye-opening and empowering experience it was attending the prestigious Forbes Leading Women Summit in Pretoria, South Africa.
This landmark event, held on March 8, celebrated female leadership and coincided with International Women's Day.
Dladla said her experience at the summit provided her with invaluable lessons that she was eager to implement in her leadership roles.
Dladla highlighted several critical themes and insights that resonated deeply with her during the summit.
She said one of the most impactful discussions revolved around the concept of conscious leadership.
She shared that one of the speakers Brenda Kali emphasised that true leadership involved doing what was right, rather than merely fulfilling obligations.
Dladla reflects, “True leadership must be grounded in integrity, not just in meeting requirements or ticking boxes.”
She recognises that principled leadership can significantly influence the success of initiatives within the arts and youth sectors.
Another profound takeaway for Dladla was the importance of authenticity in leadership.
Lady Leelai Kpukuyou's statement, “Until you know who you truly are, people will project, and you will reflect who they say you are,” struck a personal chord with her.
As a musician and public figure, Dladla said she has experienced the pressures of external perceptions.
She aims to instil the value of self-awareness and authenticity in the young artists and leaders she mentors, encouraging them to stay true to themselves amidst societal expectations. She also revealed that the summit also addressed the need for leadership characterised by dignity and respect.
Dladla said fostering these qualities was essential for effective leadership, particularly in her work with youth and the arts.
Dladla describes her experience at the Forbes Leading Women Summit as a transformative journey that will continue to shape her path as a leader.
She looks forward to sharing the lessons she learned with the young people she mentors, emphasising the importance of principled, authentic leadership.
With a renewed sense of purpose and commitment to her values, Dladla said she was determined to lead by example, inspiring the next generation of leaders in Eswatini and beyond.
