MAN ARRESTED FOR RAPE OF WIFE

A married man has been arrested for allegedly raping his wife after he was accused of having had sexual intercourse with his wife, without her consent.

The man is alleged to have proceeded to assault his wife, after allegedly raping her.

Not only did he allegedly rape his wife. *Zweli Dube but he further assaulted her.

The man, whose identity is being withheld to protect the identity of the survivor, as this is a rape case, made his first appearance before Mbabane Senior Magistrate Sifiso Vilakati yesterday.

The 37-year-old faces four counts and was yesterday advised to move his bail application at the High Court. On the first count, he was charged with contravening the Sexual Offences and Domestic Violence (SODV) Act in that, on October 18, he wrongfully and unlawfully had sexual intercourse with his wife without her consent. 

He was also charged with contravening the SODV Act in that on October 18 he damaged two doors valued at E1 200 that were in the lawful possession of his wife. On the third count, he was further charged with contravening the SODV Act in that he unlawfully assaulted his wife, while on the last count he was charged with assault common in that he intentionally assaulted a male.

He elected to conduct his own defence after his legal rights were explained to him. He was remanded into custody until November 1, pending committal to the High Court where he will move his bail application.
