Legendary gospel musician Sipho ‘Big Fish’ Makhabane will be adding the South African Music Awards (SAMA) Lifetime Achievement Award as his latest accolade in his prestigious career.
The music sensation yesterday stated that he was very excited and humbled by the recognition to be received at the awards on November 2.
He said this after a statement issued by the Recording industry of South Africa (RiSA) confirmed that the 30th SAMAs would honour legendary musicians Makhabane and Ringo Madlingozi.
Makhabane previously received the Crown Gospel Music Lifetime Achiever Award in 2012, the Mama Community Empowerment Award, Lifetime Achiever at the Mpumalanga Gospel Awards and at the Ngoma Gospel Awards.
“I am very excited about this big day as I will also be performing.
“I am particularly happy that my contribution in the industry has amassed for me such accolades. I thank God for this fourth one and I believe more is yet to come,” he said. Association of Christian Artists in Eswatini (ACAESWA) President Mcolisi Vilakati congratulated the incomparable legend on his well deserved nomination for the Lifetime Achievement Award at the SAMAs.
“The association remembers how Sipho Makhabane played a role in promoting and exposing local gospel artists on international stages.
“The decision by SAMA to honour him came at the right time where there is a great need to pay tribute to Makhabane’s contribution to the gospel music industry,” said Vilakati.

He added that Makhabane’s illustrious career as a gospel artist, trailblazer and mentor had left an indelible mark on the Eswatini gospel music scene.
“The association hereby charges him to go get that award and bring it back home sitoyetfula endlini kagogo sibonge,” he said.
Last week gospel star Mzwakhe Myeni was awarded an honorary doctorate by the Powerhouse Practicum Institute in recognition of his devoted service to the Christian fraternity.
