‘WE ARE MENTALLY DRAINED’

By NOMALUNGELO PHIRI | 2024-10-18

SOCCER - THIS is too much for us!
Hub giants Manzini Wanderers players say training everyday with no league games was draining them mentally.

Wanderers players are still in the dark pending the finalisation of their case. The maroon and white hub giants have been making headlines with their marathon relegation matter involving rivals Denver Sundowns.

The ‘Weslians’ lodged a protest against Sundowns skipper and defender Jimoh Moses, alleging that he had no valid work permit in their MTN Premier League relegation six-pointer that  was played at the Somhlolo National Stadium, on May.

Wanderers captain Mlamuli ‘Mlaba’ Nkambule said it was painful to see other teams playing yet they (Wanderers) have them to train everyday without playing.

“This whole thing is affecting us and we are mentally drained. we hope our management will give us a clear direction soon. We are mentally damaged and are honestly losing hope,” he said.
Nkambule said they would struggle to catch up with the rest of the teams.

“Training alone is different from playing competitive games. We will also need time to be match fit. This issue needs to be solved soon,” he said.

He   then appealed to his teammates to be patient with the team, saying he understood that the situation was not easy for everyone, but they should remain patient.

Defender Sihle ‘Mbhalaza’ Mkhonta said they were hungry for game-time and were running out of time. “It looks like this case will drag for the whole year, this is really affecting us.

“We train every day for nothing, may they come up with a solution to this. We want to be back in action,” said Simphiwe Manana, who revealed that he was no longer part of the team.

"I long stopped attending the team’s activities. I saw this case was going to drag for long," he said.

application
The Nyangayezizwe ‘Crooks’ Hlophe-led side last week filed an urgent application to be fixtured in the ongoing Premier League games.

However, Denver Sundowns, Moneni Pirates and Jimoh Moses are said to have opposed Wanderers’ Execution of Order. Wanderers argued that their non-participation in football was denying them the right to collect revenue necessary to sustain themselves and their employees, together with their dependents.

However, Advocate Lucas Maziya (representing Sundowns, Pirates and Jimoh) has opposed the Weslians Execution of Order on the basis that it lacked urgency.
