‘TT’ BRACE SINK PEACEMAKERS

By JONGILE XUBA | 2021-06-21

TWO goals from captain Tony ‘TT’ Tsabedze helped Mbabane Swallows to a 2-0 victory over Mhlume Peacemakers in their MTN Premier League match played at Ka-Langa Stadium yesterday.

The skipper came from the bench to lead his team to victory. Swallows were favourites coming into the match and it was evident from the first whistle.

The capital city giants dominated possession as they created a number of chances in the opening minutes. Swallows’ Leon Manyisa, Banele 'Pupu' Sikhondze and James Nguluve saw their efforts miss the target. The Birds continued to dominate but they failed to find the back of the net.

The match went to break with the teams locked at 0-0 but Swallows looked the most likely to score. Swallows quickly introduced their diminutive skipper Tony ‘TT’ Tsabedze five minutes into the second half. This proved to be a master stroke by the ‘Beautiful Birds’ as their talisman finally broke the deadlock 12 minutes later.

It was a trademark 'TT' strike from outside the box with his thunderous left boot into the top corner which gave Swallows the lead in the 62nd minute. He nearly doubled the lead two minutes later with an identical shot but this time the keeper was up for the task.

Peacemakers failed to apply sufficient pressure on their counterparts and this came back to haunt them in the 79th minute. It was some sleek one-touch passing outside the Peacemakers box that set up ‘TT’ for another goal, once again beating the goalkeeper from a distance.

This was the final nail in Peacemakers' coffin as their heads dropped and Swallows sawout the rest of the match for a well-deserved victory. The win leaves Swallows third in the MTN Premier League standings with 42 points.
