By Qondile Ntiwane | 2021-05-06

MTN Eswatini will celebrate 10 years since launching its flagship MTN Mobile Money (MoMo). As the product turns 10 years tomorrow, MTN will be giving away exciting prizes through various promotions in celebration.

MTN launched Mobile Money in Eswatini on May 2, 2011 The communications company is also expected to make a big announcement during the official launch of the MoMo anniversary.

MTN Corporate Affairs Manager Mandla Luphondvo said the MTN MoMo 10th anniversary was a time for the company to reflect on the past decade and celebrate the success in the past 10 years, driving financial inclusion, especially for the unbanked population in Eswatini.

Expectations are very high ahead of the MTN MoMo 10th anniversary launch by the company, that has become synonymous with changing people’s lives.

During MTN’s 20th anniversary in 2018, the company gave out two brand new Ford Everest cars worth over E500 000 each, to two lucky customers, amongst other promotions.

Luphondvo encouraged the public to follow MTN MoMo 10th Anniversary launch on its social media platforms to learn what is in store for them in this campaign. “We have unique promotions for each of our key stakeholders - customers, merchants and vendors.

Tomorrow, MTN will unpack all the exciting details. We invite the public to join the big reveal tomorrow on our social media platforms,” he said. Amid the COVID-19 pandemic, MTN will be giving back to its partners and customers to brighten their lives.

Luphondvo commended government and MTN MoMo partners for supporting the service since its inception.

“We further invite those who have not yet registered to use the service to do so and make sure that they do not miss out on the giveaways,” he said.

At 10 years since its inception, MTN MoMo has grown into MTN’s flagship product, circulating about E1.1billion per month on all transactions and has over 700 000 registered MoMo users. While MTN MoMo has grown massively, MTN still registers over 3 500 new subscribers each month.

On a regional space, Eswatini’s MTN MoMo is the fifth-biggest player across 23 MTN Operations.

The company also revealed last week that they had since registered a subsidiary company, MTN Fintech Services, which will run Mobile Money.

The company will be led by long-serving MTN Eswatini Chief Consumer Officer Sam Shongwe who will assume the position of Chief Executive Officer.
