STOCK EXCHANGE ON COMPLETE LOCKDOWN

By Qondile Ntiwane | 2020-03-29

The Eswatini Stock Exchange (ESE) will be on complete lockdown starting from today until April 15.

This follows the declaration of a 20-day partial lockdown to curb the spread of COVID-19 by government. In a statement yesterday, the ESE stated that as they continue to monitor the impact of COVID-19, management took a decision to prioritise the health and safety of their staff, clients and stakeholders while maintaining business operations so as to continue providing services. They, however stated that their staff would continue working from home and also available via all communication mediums, including email, Skype and mobile.

Worth noting is that several companies in the country have shut their doors in preparing for the partial lockdown, while others have opted to have their employees work from home. These companies are those that do not form part of the essential services named by Minister of Commerce, Industry and Trade Manqoba Khumalo on Wednesday.

Companies under essential services by the minister include food retailers, consumer goods suppliers, manufacturers and all businesses that are involved in the food and consumer goods supply chain, agriculture and agro-processing, public transport and cross-border transport, fuel stations and financial services.

Others are waste disposal services, health workers and emergency response workers, fire and emergency services, security services, water and sanitation services, pharmacies, media, tourism industry, electricity and energy sector and telecommunications.
