SOCCER - Famous for its finger-licking chicken, KFC has yet again ploughed back to the community as they pumped E800 000 for this year’s edition of the Scara Thindwa Soccer Foundation.
This was revealed during the sponsorship launch held at Mountain View yesterday graced by Minister of Sports, Culture and Youth Affairs Bongani Nzima, EOCGA President Adam Bomber Mthethwa, Eswatini Football Association Chief Executive Officer, Frederick Mngomezulu and ESRC CEO Darius Dlomo.
The funds will go straight into staging the development tournament under the flagship of Scara Thindwa Foundation, for both primary and high schools through the Eswatini Schools Sports Association led by President Zakhele Myeni.
Alliance Foods Operations Lead Grill said the Scara Foundation carries a legacy and it adds so much value to the young generations.
“Today is not about soccer, but also about dreams and giving the future stars a chance to grow, compete and see what’s possible in the future. At KFC we believe that a brand is not about what it sells, but about what it also stands for. We stand for community and the young people who are trying to create a bright future.
We are proud to sponsor the tournament as the foundation also shares our values and remind the youngsters on discipline and teamwork’’ he said
Scara Foundation founder Absalom ‘Scara’ Thindwa appreciated their sponsor for coming through for them again, saying the tournament brings the best out of the athletes while also producing future stars. He said over the years, the foundation has done well in assisting in improving the sport at grassroots level.
“Today has been more than just a formal launch. It has been a celebration of a shared purpose, youth development and collaborative impact. What we have witnessed this morning is a testament to what is possible when vision meets action, when partners come together with the interest of our young people at heart.
To Mr Nigel England and the entire team at KFC Eswatini, thank you for being more than just a sponsor. You are a partner in transformation. Your belief in this dream, year after year, has helped us touch more lives than we ever imagined,” he said.
Thindwa further praised the minister for his undying support and for taking time from his busy schedule to attend, their functions.
“To the minister of sports, we are grateful for your leadership and inspiring words. Your consistent support of youth-centred initiatives continues to encourage and guide our mission.
To Reverend David Matse, our chairperson, your message reminded us of the power of structured leadership, and the importance of anchoring our work in service and discipline,” he said.
