By Nokuzola Thwala | 2025-04-06

The North American Taiwanese Medical Association (NATMA) has donated essential medical equipment to the ministry of health worth approximately E260 000.

The equipment included surgical scrubs, surgical gloves, wound dressings, iodine, bags of saline and gauze rolls.

The handover took place at the ministry of health offices at the Cooper Centre.
NATMA President Dr Charles Chung-Pang Hsu led the delegation during the handover.
Minister Mduduzi Matsebula said the gesture was a symbol of unwavering support, commitment and strong belief in the work the country does.

He said the items came at the right time when they were needed the most in the country’s hospitals and would have a profound impact in the health of Emaswati.

He also said the delivery of clinical services would be greatly enabled, especially in the operation theatres where the items were highly utilised.

He further noted that the ministry had recently launched the National Health Sector Strategic Plan for 2024-2028, which he said put more emphasis in accelerating progress in attaining the universal health coverage.

“This is a challenge to strengthen our health system and make sure that all individuals and communities receive the health services they need, without suffering financial hardships. With open arms, the ministry encourages all our partners, the private sector and friends to continue supporting our mandate through such contributions, volunteerism and different acts of kindness.

Together, we can create a brighter future and strengthen the healthcare of Eswatini,” he said. Meanwhile, Republic of China (Taiwan) Ambassador Jeremy Liang reiterated Taiwan’s commitment to helping Eswatini continuously and said they would always be available to help, even to people in the rural areas.

Pharmacist Baymao Bill said he was pleased to note the hospitality that Eswatini had on refugees. He noted that they visited  Malindza Refugee Camp to offer free medical services and the refugees welcomed every national regardless of status and race.
