ESRC QUESTIONS LEGITIMACY OF NEW ENTA EXECUTIVE

By Xolisile Sacolo | 2025-04-01

The Eswatini Sports and Recreation Council (ESRC) does not approve of the appointment of Bruce Gama as president of the Eswatini National Tennis Association (ENTA).

Just two days after Gama assumed his new position, the ESRC wrote a letter to president Derrick Jele, expressing dissatisfaction with how the elections were conducted. They also outlined several concerns that they want addressed.
Gama was elected to the position during a meeting held at Gwamile Voctim on Saturday.

Six out of the 10 eligible teams participated in the Elective Special General Meeting, where Gama emerged victorious.
“We note with concern the recent developments reported in local print media and various social media platforms regarding the purported election of a new Eswatini National Tennis Association Executive Committee in the absence of the legitimate ENTA Executive Committee.

In light of our last engagement on this matter, we direct your Executive committee to immediately convene an urgent Special General Assembly to conclude the aborted Special General Meeting of March 1, which had been called to consider and adopt amendments to the Constitution. Immediately thereafter, nominations and subsequent elections of a new ENTA Executive Committee should take place.

All such actions must be conducted in accordance with the current ENTA Constitution, subject to the adoption of the new Constitution, under which nominations and elections shall be held.
We remain at your disposal for any further guidance regarding the above directives.

Thank you for your continued cooperation,” reads the letter addressed to president Jele.
When approached for comment, newly elected ENTA President Bruce Gama declined to discuss the matter, stating that he is focused on the future of tennis.
