PM JETS OUT FOR NAMIBIA PRESIDENT’S INAUGURATION

By NOKUPHILA HAJI | 2025-03-21

THE Prime Minister Russell Mmiso Dlamini has left the country to attend the inauguration ceremony of the Namibian first female President-elect Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwa.

The prime minister left the country through the King Mswati III International airport yesterday.
He is accompanied by the Minister of Public Service Mabulala Maseko, who will be representing the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Pholile Shakantu during the ceremony.

Before their departure, the prime minister said they were sent by Their Majesties to represent them during the inauguration ceremony.

He said the ceremony is scheduled for today and they would return after the inauguration.
“We hope that God will be with us in this journey,” he said.

Namibia’s first woman president-elect, Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah (72) will take office today in a ceremony that will coincide with Namibia’s 35th Independence Day. Namibia gained independence from South Africa on March 21, 1990.

President-elect Nandi-Ndaitwah, who was the vice president for Namibia and the South West Africa People’s Organisation (SWAPO), won the elections in November 2024 with 57.31 per cent votes, beating 14 rivals and crossing the 50 per cent threshold to avoid a runoff.

Her victory extended SWAPO’s rule in Namibia since independence. She succeeds the fourth president of Namibia, Nangolo Mbumba, who has served as interim president for a year since the death of the third president, Hage Geingob, in February last year.
