KING CONGRATULATES MEDALLISTS

By Mgcini Dube | 2025-02-01

SOCCER - His Majesty King Mswati III has extended his heartfelt congratulations to all Eswatini athletes who earned medals across various sporting codes.

The king's commendation came during the official opening of the second session of the 12th parliament at Lobamba yesterday, highlighting the nation's commitment to sporting excellence.
In his address, His Majesty emphasised the government's dedication to promoting sports development within the kingdom.

He underscored the ongoing efforts to improve performance on the international stage, stressing the importance of strategic investment and the introduction of innovative training methods across different sporting disciplines.

The king also acknowledged the vital connection between sports and cultural heritage, recognising their combined significance in shaping national identity.

"Government is also actively working to promote cultural heritage and drive sports innovation," stated the king. We congratulate all those who have achieved medals in international tournaments for making us proud as a nation,” he said.

His Majesty’s praise served as a powerful motivator for Eswatini’s athletes. Some of the achievements  include Men's National Netball team, who secured a hard-fought bronze medal at the African Qualifiers in Namibia.

Their success serves as an inspiration to aspiring athletes across the country. The king also acknowledged the Chess team's impressive performance at the Chess Olympiad in Budapest, Hungary, late last year, where they achieved multiple podium finishes. The country also hosted the Region V Darts Championships last year, which saw the country get a bronze medal as well as individual medals.

These accomplishments, the king noted, demonstrate the growing potential of Eswatini's athletes on the global stage and reinforce the nation's commitment to fostering a thriving sporting environment.

The king's words resonated with the assembled parliamentarians and the nation, signalling a renewed focus on supporting and celebrating the achievements of Eswatini's athletes.
