The Royal Eswatini Police Service (REPS) has been commended for performing impressively on its mandate of shielding the nation from a variety of safety and security threats.
Prime Minister Russell Dlamini who is also the Minister responsible for Police Affairs when addressing senior officers and civilian staff during their yearly conference said the REPS has been able to perform impressively through the adoption of relevant and effective prevention and reaction strategies.
The conference themed “Sikhona as a Police Service, Sitse NKWE in Fighting Crime and Road Carnage to Ensure the Safety and Security of the Nation in Partnership with Stakeholders was held last Thursday at the police academy.
Purpose
The purpose of the conference was to allow senior officers and civilian staff to reflect on organisational progress and performance while devising appropriate strategies for the upcoming year.
Dlamini said the police service’s impressive performance is evident through recent statistics which indicate that the organisation made significant strides in the reduction of homicides and fatal road accidents during 2024.
The PM stated that it is an obligation for the police service to ensure the safety and security of the country’s citizens and business interests. He said businesses were expected to conduct their trade and commerce in a crime free and safe environment.
“This will undoubtedly make Eswatini a highly attractive trading partner and act as a catalyst for government’s drive to invite foreign direct investment which will help in alleviating the high unemployment rate while simultaneously contributing positively to the country’s socio-economic development,.” he said.
Commended
The PM further commended the REPS for the remarkable strides taken in busting the extensive and highly sophisticated “facata” syndicate which is targeting unsuspecting Emaswati.
He said this syndicate was defrauding Emaswati with impunity and was hopeful that more suspects would be arrested as investigations intensified. He said police visibility on the country’s roads and other strategic public areas especially during the festive season had proven to be a highly effective crime prevention strategy and was commendable.
He applauded police officers’ commitment and dedication to duty as it was always on display in the manner they conduct themselves at work especially in cases of emergencies.
He noted that the theme of the conference was in line perfectly in sync with government’s programme of action strategies, goals and objectives in the public safety and security sector.
He said it was important that the police service as a security entity work with promptness and agility while collaborating with all sectors of society in the fight against crime and road accidents. He stated that for the REPS to effectively execute its mandate, it needs to be in good terms with the public and stakeholders.
Supply
The PM said he was hopeful that the recent supply of the new fleet of vehicles would motivate officers to continue working hard and diligently in the discharge of their duties.
Dlamini said the government was constantly working towards providing enough resources and other incentives to the police services that would enable the organisation to be able to successfully implement its mandate. He assured thatgovernment would continue working with the police executive in finding solutions so that the country’s law enforcement agency can deliver effectively in all aspects.
Dlamini urged all police officers to renew their commitment and dedication to duty to the country and its citizens, both at individual and collective levels. He went on to challenge all officers to always work with due diligence and professionalism through adherence to the organisational guiding values.
He noted that discipline is the cornerstone of every organisation and is a fundamental aspect for productivity, orderliness as well as bringing efficiency and reliability in the workplace.
National Commissioner of Police Manoma Vusie Masango reiterated the police service pledge of unwavering support to the government as the organisation will work towards aligning its programmes to the government’s, plan of action.
He said the police service will execute its mandate with excellence and patriotism with the intention to create an enabling environment to stimulate economic growth. He said officers fully understand the current era of policing, that demanded adaptability, innovation and collaboration yet still anchored to organisational values.
