His Majesty’s Correctional Services Choir and the Royal Eswatini Police Choir both secured second place at the competition held this past weekend at Ellis Park Arena in South Africa.
Competing
According to the Public Relations Officer of the Eswatini National Choral Music Association Mlungisi Dlamini,
His Majesty's Correctional Services (HMCS) Choir came second competing under the prestigious great champion category where they received 903.60 points, while the Royal Eswatini Police Choir also claimed the second place in the large category with 832.50 points.
Dlamini confirmed that both choirs were rewarded with cash prizes and a trophy each, marking a significant achievement for Eswatini's choral music scene.
Dlamini expressed the association's pride in the accomplishments of the participating choirs.
“We are very happy with the achievements garnered by our choirs at the Tiro Mpane Foundation Choral competition.
We are also proud of the gallant display of talent shown by the local three choirs that participated in the competition, which also includes the Emmanuel Methodist Church choir,” said Dlamini.
While the Emmanuel Methodist Church choir did not secure a winning position, Dlamini emphasised their commendable performance. “Despite not winning, we are super proud of their gallant performance,” he said.
He added that the awards received by the choirs would undoubtedly enhance the choral space in general.
“With choirs competing in the SADC region, local choral competitions will be elevated, compelling other choirs to raise their performance standards to match those of the winning choirs,” he noted.
Expressed
Dlamini also expressed optimism for the future of choral music in Eswatini. He believes that the hard work and dedication exhibited by the choirs at the Tiro Mpane Foundation competition would lead to improved standards in local choral competitions.
“We are truly grateful for what the choirs have done for us as the choral sector,” he remarked.
Dlamini revealed that the in recognition of their participation, the Emmanuel Methodist Church choir would receive R15 000.
Eswatini National Council of Arts and Culture CEO Stanley Dlamini expressed his excitement over the local choir’s achievements.
Happy
“As a nation, we are always so proud and happy whenever local choral choirs go to compete on a global stage as we know that they always make us proud. We have placed so much confidence in the choirs as we know that we will be well represented. Local choirs are well managed and have good systems in place for them to participate and compete effectively,” he said.
Success
He added that the success of the choirs not only underscored their individual talents but also reflects the growing choral movement in Eswatini.
“Such wins foster a vibrant community where music continues to inspire and uplift. With such achievements, the future of choral music in the region looks promising, setting the stage for even greater accomplishments to come,” added Dlamini.
