NATIONAL Commissioner of Police Vusi Manoma Masango has asked the church to rise up and fight against crime.
He said churches had a huge responsibility in fighting crime.
There were instances where couples were killing each other which was prevalent lately.
Masango was speaking during an end of year prayer service held at the Mpolonjeni royal Kraal (Mbabane) yesterday.
He urged the nation and the church to avail the platform for police during meetings and services to at least talk about crime.
Issues
He said there were issues of GBV whereby couples were fighting and also beating their children. Children who were exposed to such might end up killing themselves in the process. People were killing each other in the name of love.
“People who know love and are experts of it say there is agape love which is now scarce. Why would you kill someone that you love? When they cry, what picture is being painted to you? Do we all have to die in the name of love?” he said.
Masango added that there was nothing called tibi tendlu. People would die and leave their children behind due to tibi tendlu.
“The situation is dire out there, we have to do everything in our power to stop it. We will not run away, but we will approach it head on,” he said.
Masango said the police needed a platform where they would talk about crime even if it was brief.
He said pastors were similar to police because the prevalent crime had to be reprimanded by pastors.
“At the end we will account for the work that we have been given authority to maintain peace and preach until we go to heaven,” he said.
He appreciated the church and traditional structures of the constituency. He said the church was the body of Christ. Most of the trouble started when families were broken and children were denied a good upbringing.
Divorced
“People are getting divorced left, right and centre this is why we have children who are not being raised by both parents. If the institution of a family is attached to the church, there are slim chances for children to commit this spine chilling crimes,” he said.
He requested Reverend Johannes Mazibuko to take a detour and speak about gangsterim and its causes.
He said the church should not run away from crime but should speak about it.
Masango said the country was fortunate that Christianity was not being attacked like it was happening in other countries.
“I was happy that 20 per cent of the population in South Korea is practising Christianity. In other countries, christians are being persecuted which is why I urge the church to stand up and fight crime,” he said.
He said in schools, there was rife gangsterism.
and children were being initiated into something that was demonic.
The whole church should speak about these things since they recorded cases of children fighting and killing each other.
He said children were watching backstage and street fighting, which they now had to attend to.
“Children are very smart and are stealing people’s cash. Why would you steal the E500 that the elderly get from government?
Released
“When they are released, they encounter factions, leading to others being hospitalised.
“ Police must now be stationed in hospitals since the injured are being targeted even in their hospital beds,” he said.
He said Mazibuko had been visible where the police were challenged.
He said the pastor offered counselling, especially where there were officers who were injured or died while in the line of duty.
“This led to some of the senior officers providing psychotherapist services, taking the button from Mazibuko,” he said.
Politicians
Masango said politicians believed government should implement certain programmes to build bigger correctional facilities for those who were committing crime.
“We should be a church that speaks the truth not lies,” said Masango.
