SOCCER - THEY came, they played, got a point and they are back at the top of the table!
Mbabane Swallows put their troubles aside and honoured their match against Rangers where they settled for a goalless draw.
This was during an MTN Premier League match played at King Sobhuza II Stadium.
All eyes were on the capital city giants as they played the match with lot of internal problems that resulted in the players not being able to attend training for the whole of the past week.
The Premier League of Eswatini could also not accede to Swallows’ request for postponement of the fixture.
Coming to the encounter, the red and white glamour side made a number of changes from the previous clashes with goalkeeper Nkosingiphile Mathe also making his debut.
The early moments of the game saw the resilient Rangers posing questions to Swallows as they made more entries in the opposition box. Not holding back, Swallows striker Bongi Magagula put Rangers’ defence on high alert in the 23rd minute but Samkelo Dlamini denied the former Pigg’s Peak Black Swallows the chance to score in a one-on-one situation.
Sihle Mavimbela's side continued to press forward but they failed to find the back of the net.
The match went to break at 0-0.
Swallows came back the better side in the second half following the introduction of Philiso Newman, Ayanda Gadlela and Phiwokuhle Shabangu.
Skipper Kwakhe Thwala had a chance put his side ahead in the 49th minute but the goalkeeper made another great save. As the clock ticked down, the two sides went toe-to-toe, looking to break the deadlock.
Swallows fluffed an opportunity in the 88th minute when the hosts goalkeeper committed a mistake. In the end, the two sides shared the spoils and Swallows have reclaimed the top spot on the log table.
