WE ARE BROKE - SWALLOWS

By MELUSI MLOTSA | 2024-11-20

SOCCER - MBABANE Swallows Football Club are reported to have swallowed their pride and admitted before the Conciliation, Mediation and Arbitration Commission (CMAC) that they can’t afford to pay arrear salaries due to players since they were broke.

Recently, the players hauled their employer, Mbabane Swallows FC to CMAC over the outstanding salaries, including other things such as neglecting injured players, Given Lukhele, Sizolwethu ‘Nunu’ Shabalala and poor living conditions in the club-house, amongst others.

A total of 15 players appeared before CMAC yesterday for the hearing. The club was represented by President Absalom 'Mvana’ Ngwenya, Legal Advisor Welile Maseko and Gcina Maseko.

The meeting between the mediator, CMAC, players and Swallows FC took over an hour.
Though the media was not allowed during the hearing, it managed to get updates of the discussions between the parties involved. Reports suggest that Swallows management acknowledged their wrong-doings in not paying the players what was due to them.

Sources revealed that the MC said its coffers were dry and they would be officially handing over the club to Princess Lungile today at Madlenya Building.

“The matter was clear, the MC admitted that they defaulted in paying the salaries. They have no alternative but handover the club to the princess. The captain will represent the players during the official handover of the club,” said MC

Swallows legal Advisor Welile Maseko declined to comment on the matter.
“This matter is between employer and employee, hence, we can’t comment what transpired during the meeting,” she said.

President, ‘Mvana’ Ngwenya could not respond to journalists as well.
“I can’t say anything. What you can write is that I was well-dressed,” he jokingly said.
Meanwhile, the handover is expected to take place at noon today.
