SOCCER – After a promising start in the TotalEnergies CAF Under -20 Africa Cup of Nations/ COSAFA Qualifier, Eswatini Under 20 were beaten 0-3 by Zimbabwe yesterday at ABB Stadium 2.

The Mduduzi ‘Sikhalo’ Nxumalo-led side went to half-time trailing by a goal. Things became worse in the second half as the Zimbabweans scored two goals with no reply from the local side. Ultimately, the score remained 0-3 in favour of the young ‘Black Mambas’.

The disappointing results mark Eswatini’s first defeat in the competition after they defeated the hosts Mozambique on Wednesday.

They will now switch their focus to Botswana in Group A, in a do or die match billed for tomorrow. Only the top team in each group pool will advance to the semi-finals along with the best-placed runner-up.

Eswatini will be seeking a first passage out of the group stages of the regional championship in 22 years.
