SEMUSA NETWORKS COACHES YOUTH THROUGH SEMINAR

By KHETSIWE KHUMALO | 2024-04-23

OVER 50 young people attended the life-changing seminar hosted by Semusa Networks on Saturday.

The event, which was held at Sibane Sami Hotel, was aimed at assisting the youth in finding out if they need a life coach, psychologist or both.

The session started at 12pm and attracted a number of youth and adults.

KrtC provided entertainment by rendering two of his poems, one dedicated to the boys and the other for girls.

The programme also featured Clinical Psychologist Phephile Sukati who kicked off the first session of the seminar.

She explained in detail her work, the importance of it and also took some questions and comments from the attendees.

“I think today’s session went well. The turn-up was good for a start.  I know the youth have mental issues, which sometimes result in suicide attempts. Such platforms are needed for the youth to open up and get much needed information that can in turn help them,” said Sukati.

During the second session, Gugulethu Mthimkhulu started off by explaining her passion for the youth.

She relayed how she begun the journey three years ago and had to resign from work to focus on her dream of bettering the youth.

“I started life coaching sessions for the youth at Maphiveni. Life coaching is slightly different from psychology as with life coaching I am teaching one how to become a better person,” said Mthimkhulu.

She stated that she offers her services to people from the ages of 12  to over 50. Mthimkhulu explained how the youth were facing various challenges such as drug and alcohol abuse, online games, peer pressure, bullying and more.

Mthimkhulu said the benefit of having a life coach was that they helped one strive and relieve one of self-doubt.

Suggestions that parents also needed to get involved in such seminars were made by attendees. Mthimkhulu said parents would also be invited to the same session in May. She stated that they would speak on how parents go wrong in the upbringing of their children and more.

“The event was mostly an awareness whereby the youth learns and understands the difference between the roles of a clinical psychologist and a life coach. A lot of misconceptions were cleared and a lot was brought to light. The participants were interactive, gave correct summaries of what each speaker presented and asked the most relevant questions,” said Mthimkhulu.

She further stated that the request that the sessions be hosted for the youth once every month was noted.

“The youth shared how the enlightenment helps them understand their own issues and how keen they are for private sessions going forward,” said Mthimkhulu.

She further acknowledged sponsorship of E1 000 from BPLB Communications and E1 000 from Nellie De Sousa.

Semusa Networks’ Sisusa Dlamini closed off the session by thanking everyone for coming.

Dlamini said she was happy to have agreed to the hosting of the seminar as it groomed the youth who one day will be their ambassadors.

“Please try to make use of such platforms for your benefit. Also inform your parents about the sessions. I hope you were all empowered to the point where you never digress,” said Dlamini.

She implored the youth to consider spirituality or mediation as it cleanses one’s life. She advised the youth to learn how to forgive, be mindful of the places they go to, love themselves, respect themselves and be humble.

“Also try not to not miss any steps in your life. Do not rely on your friends but instead know you are an individual and that nothing can stop you,” added Dlamini.
