ETHIOPIA’S QUEEN OF SHEBA’S BIG DREAM FOR ESWATINI SPORTS

By Mthunzi Maziya | 2019-06-25

SPORTS – ETHIOPIA’S Queen of Sheba, who was a guest of honour for Peaceful Warrior’s Foundation’s project launch for Sigwe Inkhundla at the Royal Villas yesterday, wants Eswatini to be the headquarters of a Royal Sports tournament for Africa and the Middle East.

The Queen, in conjunction with the Peaceful Warrior Foundation, wants to pioneer a sports tournament that will be contested by the whole of the African continent, with its finals taking place in the Kingdom of Eswatini.

She said through this tournament, the country would benefit through infrastructure development, skills development, and possibly through tourism income, as she anticipates a total of 100 countries to participate in the tournament.

“For the finals, the plan is to have five teams coming from each of the five different zones of the African continent, namely East, north, west, central, and the south. We would also have finalists from the countries of the Middle East. In essence, it is the African continent that shall benefit from the hosting of such a tournament with the income that is projected to come with it,” she said.

She added that the dream came about after realising that the youth were the cornerstone of the futures of all countries.

“We want this tournament to not only include big teams from around the continent, but also schools. The finals will then be played over a two week period here in Eswatini as the headquarters of the Royal Sports tournament,” she said.

The queen referred to this as a global tournament that will have huge benefits for Eswatini and Africa as a whole. “This will be an annual tournament, with those who excel to be celebrated at the finals,” she said.

Peaceful Warrior Foundation’s patron, Prince Bandzile, thanked the queen for the vision she has for the development of sports in the country and the continent. He said the Peaceful Warrior Foundation stands ready to play its role where needed.
