FORMER minister of foreign affairs and international cooperation Mtiti Fakudze has been appointed as Chairperson of the Eswatini Post and Telecommunications Corporation (EPTC) Board.
Fakudze, who has just been recently appointed a member of Liqoqo, previously served government as minister of agriculture and minister of foreign affairs and international cooperation some years back. The appointment of Fakudze was made by Minister of Information, Communications and Technology Princess Sikhanyiso. The appointment, according to Legal Notice No. 66 of 2019, came into force on March 12, 2019. The members of the board are expected to be in office for a period not exceeding three years. Fakudze has been appointed together with other members, such as Principal Secretary in the Ministry of ICT Maxwell Mazwi Masuku. The rest of the members are Colette Bhembe, Nontombi Motsa and Cebsile Mabuza. Fakudze takes over from Minister of Economic Planning and Development Dr Thambo Gina. Minister Gina took over from axed EPTC former Chairman Simon Mthunzi. Mthunzi was fired under mysterious circumstances.
Trying to clear the controversy of his axing, Mthunzi claimed that although there were many reasons behind his dismissal, one of such was that he declined to reinstate fired former EPTC manager Charles Ndlovu, who was an alleged ally of the then minister of information, communications and technology Dumisani Ndlangamandla.
Ndlovu, who held the position of senior manager sales and marketing, was fired after he had been charged with dishonesty, following the leaking of documents about a Swazi Telecom Charity tournament voting process, where he allegedly denied that they were in the care and custody of his department.
