ZAMBEZI MAGIC CALLING ASPIRING FILM MAKERS

HERE’S your time to shine, film-makers.

Zambezi Magic, which is on channel 160 on the DStv bouquet, is looking for five new film concepts, which depict the authentic African experience that will allow the channel’s audience to escape into a fresh and exciting world.  

 According to a statement issued to this publication yesterday, the concepts of the films should touch on interesting universal themes, positive African experiences, while staying true to the specific world it depicts.

“It should touch on social commentary without being too didactic. This concept should deliver laughter, tears and create an unparalleled emotional connection with the audience. At the core of our new films should be unique and new stories, different from our current slate,” reads the statement.

 The African channel is looking for film makers from the Kingdom of Eswatini, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Malawi, and Botswana. The film should be 60 to 90 minutes with culturally relevant and specific to the setting of the story.

Also, the themes should cover real life experiences like love, hope, betrayal to mention a few interesting topics.

“The proposed drama should have a unique, fresh and exciting treatment of the above mentioned themes. 

These concepts should be family friendly and inspirational yet remain rooted in story and encourage appointment viewing,” reads the statement.

Character biographies for the main characters including their traits, goals, needs and flaws as well an indication of relationships are also needed.

Proposals should be no longer than 10 pages and an estimated budget.  Deadline for submission is on November 19  and submission portal is: https://submissions.mnetcorporate.co.za/

Zambezi Magic, channel 160 on DStv, is a hyper channel that offers a mix of African produced content for six markets in Southern Africa (Zambia, Zimbabwe, Namibia, Botswana, Malawi, and Eswatini).
