SOCCER – MONENI Pirates are reportedly chasing the signature of former Sihlangu head coach Harries ‘Madze’ Bulunga for next season.
A source close to the matter asserted that top officials of the team have already enquired about Bulunga, who is still waiting for his return to club football since his contract with Sihlangu was not renewed by the National Football Association of Swaziland two years ago.
He also had a short stint with Green Mamba and was replaced by Caleb Ngwenya.
“Madze is the strong contender to lead the team next season as the elders are interested in his services due to his experience in local football. They are hoping to table him an offer soon as they are also to appoint a new managing director to lead the team next season,” the source said.
Bulunga said he had taken a break from football when sought for comment yesterday. “No team has approached me at the moment and I must say that I have also taken a break from football due to personal reasons,” he said. Pirates Public Relations Officer Jabu Ndzingane said he was yet to be briefed about the matter when contacted yesterday. “Nothing has reached my office regarding the matter you are talking about and, therefore, it would be folly of me to commit myself on the matter,” She said.
Bulunga was recently linked with a move with Manzini Sundowns which eventually opted for South African mentor Humphrey Mlwane. Pirates were under the guidance of former Mbabane Highlanders and Red Lions coach Ernest Mavuso last season and he is yet to meet with the club over new contractual talks.
The ‘Sea Robbers’ are also without a managing director since the unceremonious exit of businessman December Mavimbela mid last season. Reports also coming within the ‘Sea Robbers’ camp suggest that a top local businessman, whose name is deliberately withheld, have been approached to take charge of the black and white ensemble.
