By Sibusiso Masilela | 2018-03-18

SOCCER - Capital city giants Mbabane Swallows progression to the group stages of the CAF Champions League   has been described as the perfect gift for the country ahead of the upcoming 50 /50 double celebrations.

This was said by an elated Minister of Sports, Culture and Youth Affairs David ‘Cruiser’ Ngcamphalala after watching the red and white glamour side record a  1-0 victory over Zanaco FC at the Somhlolo National Stadium yesterday.

“This is a historical day for the country especially ahead of the 50/ 50 celebrations. This has created good hype and excitement from the nation as we prepare for these celebrations. We are happy and hounoured by the team’s achievement, which has put the country on the map.

We are also grateful and humbled by the support of His Majesty and the entire nation which has played a huge role in this tremendous success,” he said.

The minister further urged Swallows to remain humble and respectful.

“My advice to the team is that they should not get carried away because of the glory and money they will receive for reaching the group stages. Money can make you lose good things and we do not want to see the team losing focus but want to see them continue doing well in the international football scenes,” he said.

The minister further pledged their support to the team as they prepare for the next stage of the tournament.

Chairman of the Premier League of Swaziland (PLS) Mark Carmichael also said they were proud of the team’s achievement.

“Swallows have made the local football fraternity proud and this shows that the standard of football in the country has improved immensely.

We are confident that the team will go all the way in this competition and are fully behind them in every step of the way,” he said.
