SPORTS – THE Swaziland Olympic and Commonwealth Games Association (SOCGA), together with the Swaziland National Sports and Recreation Council (SNSRC), have forked out E1.1 million for the team that will be taking part in the Gold Coasts Commonwealth Games slated for April.
This was announced by SOCGA President Peter Shongwe during a press briefing yesterday.
Shongwe revealed that SOCGA had contributed E800 000 while SNSRC forked out E300 000.
Shongwe further wished the team the best of luck in the games, and the delegation leader Pearl Dlamini all the best.
“We are very proud to have given the team E800 000 while the other E300 000 was contributed by the SNSRC. We hope with the E1.1 million, the team will be able to perform to the best of their abilities because we know they are very capable of coming back with medals. Also, let’s wish the head of delegation, Pearl Dlamini (SOCGA Vice president and Boxing Association President) all the best; we know she will motivate them further.”
Meanwhile, SNSRC Chief Executive Officer Darius Dlomo said they were very excited to be sending he team for such significant games and thanked SOCGA for contributing the bulk of the funding.
“It is always very exciting for us to see-off teams to go and hoist our country flag, especially for the Commonwealth and Olympic Games. We are very optimistic in the team’s performance because we know very well what they are capable of doing.
They are the best in their respective sporting codes. Also, we thank our partners SOCGA for contributing the bulk of the funding, without them, this trip wouldn’t have been possible.”
On the other hand, the team’s head of delegation Pearl Dlamini urged more women to join sports in the country, as she expressed disappointment in the fact that only two females would be travelling to the Commonwealth Games.
