By Ayanda Dlamini | 2018-02-15

Over 40 girls have registered to take part in the Miss Swaziland pageant this year.

This was revealed by Swaziland Beauty Pageant President Catrien Potgieter during an interview yesterday.

When interviewed, Potgieter mentioned that that the response this year is overwhelming and a first of its kind as they have not recorded such a huge number of contestants ever since they took over the directorship.  “I must say the response is awe-inspiring this year. More girls will be taking part in this years’ pageant and is it wonderful to have such a great response “We are currently screening the applications right now and by the end of this month we will be done.” said the president.

Meanwhile, Potgieter also mentioned that they had postponed the pageant to a date that is sill yet to be announced.

According to Potgieter, the reason behind the reschedule was because they had a lot planned  for March. “There is a lot going on in the country right now. We have decided to pause for now and meet up with the office (Swaziland Beauty Pageant) and the Swaziland National   Council of Arts and Culture (SNCAC) to discuss the crowning date,”   Potgieter said.

winner might drive home in new wheels

Will Miss Swaziland 2018/19 drive home in new wheels?

This is one question that most contestants ask themselves when they think about joining this pageant, and for the past years, it has been a tradition that the eventual Miss Swaziland queen walks home with a new car during crowning.

When asked if the very same prize would be given to this year’s winner, Swaziland Beauty Pageant President Catrien Potgieter chose to be diplomatic with her response, stating that they were still hoping for a sponsor that will come with a car.

“It will depend on our sponsors. We are hoping that this year the ambassador will walk home with a new car,” she said.

Potgieter could only reveal that the top 12 will get beauty hampers and the two princesses will get mobile phones.

“This is what I can confirm for now,” said the president.
