SHOCK AS WOMAN COLLAPSES INSIDE CHURCH

By PHEPHILE MOTAU | 2024-04-29

What was meant to be a spirit-filled church service ended abruptly when a woman collapsed and died while the service was on-going.

This occurred at the Elohim Assembly Church, which has its premises at the Youth Centre at Extension 3 and the deceased is from Gobholo.

According to an eye-witness, the 56-year-old woman was supposed to lead the church service yesterday morning when she met her demise. After the service began and the congregation had stood up during praise and worship, they discovered that the woman could not stand up.

The eye-witness said the woman was then attended to and it was discovered that she had collapsed and could no longer stand up. The Emergency Medical Services was then called to the scene and they promptly arrived to attend to the collapsed woman.

However, they discovered that she was already dead and the police had to be called to the scene to remove the body.

When a team from this newspaper arrived at the scene, the last police vehicle was already leaving, while a police officer was seen taking statements from the sombre congregants.

Members of other churches within the premises also came through to pass their condolences to the pastor as they left their churches. The children were playing outside the church, while adults were clearing the premises and removing chairs.

A pastor in the church who identified himself as Mdluli said the woman was supposed to lead the church service when she was discovered to be unwell.

Mdluli said he was also a visiting pastor at the church and he did not know much about what happened. He said he did not know if the woman had died as they were also waiting for information from the police. Mdluli further advised that more information could be obtained from the police.

Deputy Police Information and Communications Officer Assistant Superintendent Nosipho Mnguni confirmed the matter. She said the woman who died was from Gobholo area.
