SOCCER – Correctional services side Green Mamba are believed to be leading the race in landing the signature of former AS Vita club  and Sihlangu Semnikati striker Mthunzi ‘Xavi’ Mkhontfo.

The Correctional Services outfit is battling against giants Mbabane Swallows in acquiring the services of the Royal Leopard owned attacking midfielder ahead of the Ingwenyama Cup quarter-finals slated for this weekend.

Green Mamba will battle it out against army side Young Buffaloes while Swallows have a date with hub giants Manzini Wanderers at the Somhlolo National Stadium tomorrow.

A source close to the matter revealed that the two sides were  trying to lure the player to join their respective camps yesterday.

“Green Mamba are said to have tabled a lucrative offer for the player but Leopard are not willing to easily let go of the player. However, by yesterday afternoon the player had still not made a decision on the team he intends joining,” said the source.

Mbabane Swallows were also said to be racing against time to register their two international players

Green Mamba CEO Thamie Phakathi politely asked not to comment on the matter when sought for comment last night.

“We have to respect other teams hence I am in no position to talk about Mthunzi because he is a Royal Leopard player,” he said. Efforts to get a comment from Leopard PRO proved futile as his mobile phone was not available on the MTN Network when called last night.

General Manager Sandile Zwane said nothing has been confirmed where the registration of players was concerned.“Nothing has been confirmed as we are still working on some logistics where registration is concerned,” he said.

Meanwhile Wanderers are expected to unleash new kid on the block Mancoba Spider Maseko, formerly with Midas City, amongst other players.
