NATCOM EYEING FIRST TROPHY

By Mgcini Dube | 2025-04-05

As the highly anticipated Ingwenyama Cup knockout tournament final draws near, National Commissioner of police (NatCom) Manoma Masango is hopeful that Royal Leopard will deliverto him their first trophy for him as club president.

The showdown will take place at Somhlolo National Stadium, the country’s football Mecca on Sunday, in a competition that blends football with rich cultural significance. The match is particularly special as it will be played in the presence of His Majesty King Mswati III.

Masango emphasised the importance of the final, recalling that Royal Leopard had reached this stage twice before, only to lose both times to Mbabane Swallows in 2016 and 2017.
The national commissioner expressed confidence in his team, noting that as a security forces club, they are extra motivated to lift the trophy in the presence of their Commander-in-Chief, His Majesty.

“We have twice reached the finals and lost to the same team, Mbabane Swallows. Winning the trophy would mean a lot to us as the police service, especially after past disappointments. It would be a great honour to lift it before His Majesty the King. My message to the players is simple: go out there, fight, entertain the spectators with good football, and bring the trophy home.

We are not under pressure, but we need this victory as much as our opponents do. I trust that God Almighty will not disappoint us on Sunday.” Masango acknowledged that Moneni Pirates are a strong side and that past results do not determine the outcome of a final.

“Football is unpredictable. Every team that reaches a final has prepared well for it. While we want to win, we do not see ourselves as dominant. The competition is fierce in the Premier League,” he said.

Meanwhile, Moneni Pirates President Thulani Xaba said his team was determined to revive their 2015 Ingwenyama Cup glory by securing the title once again. “We are not under pressure to repeat the 2015 victory. Of course, we will draw inspiration from it, but we are focused on the present challenge.

“Moneni Pirates have a clear vision, structured around three key pillars shared with all stakeholders. This final is part of our long-term plan to restore the club’s glory.
“It’s not about confidence or emotions, it’s about executing our vision.”

Xaba remained tight-lipped about specific team preparations but assured fans that the players know exactly what is expected of them.
“I have spoken to the players numerous times.
“They understand their responsibilities, and I will not pile unnecessary pressure on them by publicly sharing our pep-talk.
“However, they are fully aware of the expectations from the board, president, and the entire Moneni Pirates family,” added Xaba.
