Renowned Eswatini FIFA-accredited referee, Leticia Vienna, continues to make waves on the international stage, earning another prestigious appointment as a video assistant referee (VAR) in the TotalEnergies CAF Champions League quarter-final encounter between Al Ahly and Al Hilal.
The highly anticipated first-leg clash is scheduled to take place at Cairo International Stadium on April 1,2025.
Twelve-time CAF Champions League winners Al Ahly, who finished as runners-up in their group, will be looking to progress to the semi-finals in what promises to be a thrilling contest.
Vienna’s latest appointment comes shortly after she was entrusted with officiating duties at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) Championship, which will be co-hosted by Tanzania, Kenya and Uganda.
When reached for comment, Eswatini Football Association Marketing and Communications Officer Muzi Radebe stated that he was yet to receive official confirmation.
“I think you should contact her first. On my side, I have not yet received any correspondence,” he said.
Meanwhile, efforts to reach Eswatini Referees Association Secretary Mbongeni Shongwe for a comment were unsuccessful, as his phone rang unanswered.
Vienna will be returning to Egypt for the second time, having previously officiated in the TotalEnergies CAF Women’s Champions League in 2021. Her continued involvement on the international stage is a testament to her outstanding officiating skills and the growing recognition of Eswatini referees in continental football.
