PERSONALITY DIFFERENCES LETTING DOWN CABINET MACHINERY - SENATOR TONY

By Nokuphila Haji | 2025-03-18

SENATOR Tony Sibandze believes that the personality differences in cabinet are slowing down the machinery to expedite the implementation of quick-win solutions.

The senator raised this during the prime minister’s office 2025/2026 annual budget performance debate yesterday.
Sibandze said they had no doubt that cabinet was working, but highlighted that the personality differences were tainting the work that they had already done.

He said they had heard the PM say they were not fighting but were working.
However, he said it becomes a problem for the administration if those who are working are not fighting in pursuit of the task of hand but are doing so due to personal issues.

“We are a country that is not in a good fiscal position and we need to find the quick-win solutions that will help us.
“We are noting this and it concerns us as a country and I don’t believe we were sent to do this,” he said.

Sibandze added that the ministers should know that there was only one principal where they are, highlighting that as they work, they should be aware of who is leading them.
He said they were all sent to work, stating that if they fought, they would not be the ones affected but the taxpayers. “We would like to know if the cabinet is pulling together and if the issue of indifferences would stop.

Let’s also stop going to the media if there are differences. Just fight your differences in cabinet behind closed doors.
“The taxpayers do not pay you to fight but to bring solutions to the country’s problems,” he said.
He asked cabinet to work with the PM so that such issues could be addressed.

Responding to Sibandze’s concerns, the PM said it was true that every team was strong because of everyone’s contribution.
He said there was a need for them not to cross certain perimeters, saying they were at that stage.

“Some of these things are caused by that we do not know how to work. We are learning and are patient with each other. “We do speak amongst ourselves in cabinet and we always say that we must maintain the lines of communication open,” he said.
