MBABANE Swallows assistant coach Musa Mamba stated that they are well aware of what their former head coach and upcoming opponent, Moneni Pirates’ Caleb Ngwenya, is capable of.
Ngwenya left the capital city giants at the beginning of the season to join the Hub-based side, following a successful stint with Swallows.
During his tenure, he led the team to an MTN Premier League title and two international pre-season tournament victories.
Now, things have changed. The once-celebrated coach is now an obstacle standing in Swallows’ path as they pursue their fourth Ingwenyama Cup title.
Speaking ahead of the crucial fixture, Mamba who worked alongside Ngwenya during his time at Swallows revealed that they were fully prepared for the challenge and were familiar with Ngwenya’s tactical approach.
“Moneni Pirates is not an unfamiliar opponent to us, and fortunately, neither is their coach. We know what to expect and we are fully aware of his capabilities and strategies he may use to prepare for this match. It is now up to us, as the technical bench and players, to execute our game plan and secure victory on the day,” he said.
However, Mamba acknowledged the magnitude of the challenge ahead, especially with Swallows still recovering from the departure of several key title-winning players in January.
Despite this setback, he assured fans that the team would give their best performance. “We understand the expectations of the Mbabane Swallows family.
While other teams have been strengthening their squads, we have had to rebuild ours in the middle of the season. Nevertheless, we are doing everything possible to ensure we deliver a strong performance this Monday and give our fans something to celebrate,” he stated.
Mamba also urged fans to fill the stadium, promising that Swallows would seek redemption for their 1-0 defeat against Moneni Pirates in the first round of the league.
“The entire club understands the significance of this match. Moneni Pirates owe us after beating us in the first round, in a game we honestly should not have lost.
Fortunately, my head coach at the time is now leading that team, so he knows exactly what I am talking about. This is our opportunity to correct that mistake,” he added.
Meanwhile, Moneni Pirates head coach Caleb Ngwenya downplayed the significance of his past achievements, which include winning the Ingwenyama Cup with Green Mamba and finishing as a runner-up.
“For us, the most important thing is always the next game, not the previous one. Our focus is on preparing for the upcoming match rather than dwelling on past results,” he said.
Ngwenya also confirmed that his squad was in good shape and that he would have a full-strength team available for the fixture.
“Our preparations are going well, and the players are responding positively to our tactical approach. We are confident that we will go into the match with a complete squad
