SOCCER - FORMER Mbabane Highlanders defender Melusi ‘Mega’ Magagula has revealed that he almost quit football due to the recent rise in muti incidents during matches.
Magagula was speaking after playing his first full game since late last year, when he lost his sight during a match while playing for his former club. Now part of Ezulwini United, he helped his team advance to the next round by securing a clean sheet.
‘Mega’ expressed gratitude for being back on the field after such a setback but admitted he was hesitant to return, fearing another injury.
This revelation follows a similar claim by Royal Swallows player Bongani 'Smally' Dlamini, who said he saw snakes during their last 32 clash against Green Mamba two weeks ago.
"I heard about the incident that happened to the other player last week, and to be honest, I was scared. I almost quit after what had happened to me. However, I’m glad I decided to push through, and it feels great to be back," he said.
Reflecting on his performance, Magagula expressed surprise at managing to play the full 90 minutes. He credited his new team for restoring his confidence and motivating him to continue playing.
"When I was thinking of quitting, I remembered that I had already committed to the club and started training with them. Once I put on the jersey, I felt motivated to play. I’m happy with my performance, and I’ll continue to improve," he said.
Magagula’s resilience and determination serve as an inspiration to many, especially as he navigates his comeback amid challenges both on and off the pitch.
