SOCCER - THE security forces derby match between defending champions Green Mamba and Royal Leopard in the Ingwenyama Cup last 16 will be played at Mayaluka Stadium on Saturday.
This will be during a double header that will also feature Illovo and Sisonkhe in the first match.
This is according to a feature released by Premier League of Eswatini (PLE) acting CEO Petros ‘Pat’ Vilakati yesterday.
Shiselweni-based side Rangers will host Moneni, while Nkwene face-off with Manzini Sea Birds in another double header at King Sobhuza II Stadium II on Saturday.
Army side Young Buffaloes will visit Pigg’s Peak Rangers at Mkhuzweni Technical Centre on Saturday while Lozitha Hotspurs will welcome Madlenya at Manzini Club.
Capital city giants Mbabane Swallows will take on CK survivors at Mavuso Sports Centre on Sunday while Red Rhinos clash with Ezulwini United in the first match at the same venue.
This year’s edition will see champions taking home E1 450 000, which is an increase of E50 000 while runners-up pocket E650 000 compared to the E530 000 received by last year’s second best.
Green Mamba have won the tournament twice in a row, while Royal Leopard remain the only top-tier side yet to win this prestigious competition, which is renowned for its cultural significance. Ingwenyama Cup Public Relations Officer Nkosilenhle 'Makawosi' Masuku expressed satisfaction with the tournament’s progress so far.
He commended supporters for maintaining a vibrant atmosphere during games. “It’s getting more and more exciting. We are looking forward to the next round; the impressive number of goals scored in the last 32 is a testament to the high quality of the competition.”
