By KHETSIWE KHUMALO | 2025-01-22

THE Eswatini National Council of Arts and Culture (ENCAC) will host a three-day Arts Summit next week.

The Arts Summit represents an important step forward for the creative industries in Eswatini, fostering new opportunities, networking, and addressing critical issues facing the sector.

ENCAC Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Stanley Dlamini confirmed that the summit would be held from January 29-31 at the Institute of Development Management (IDM) in Matsapha.

“The summit will bring together seasoned professionals from various facets of the creative industries to explore opportunities in the sector, share their expertise, and foster discussions on critical topics like IP, royalties, funding, and more,” explained the CEO.

He stated that the first day of the summit would focus on film and television, with presentations from experienced producers and commissioning editors sharing their experiences and insights on the industry.

Day two, according to Dlamini, would  delve into music, with a particular emphasis on intellectual property (IP), royalties, and funding.

“Representatives from major collecting societies such as Southern African Music Rights Organisation (SAMRO), Independent Music Performance Rights Association (IMPRA), and AIRCO will be present to shed light on the royalties collection process and address any concerns artists may have,” said Dlamini.

He added that entertainment law would also be a topic of discussion.
The CEO said the final day would speak to events, awards, and festivals, exploring the intricacies of hosting successful events and creating a vibrant event calendar for Eswatini.

The CEO extended an invitation to all NACA nominees, winners, artists, filmmakers, producers, authors and interested parties to attend the summit, free of charge.

“Registration is required, and food will be provided on-site. Those travelling from outside the Mbabane and Manzini corridor can also request transportation arrangements,” Dlamini said.
