TAIWAN OFFERS MEDICAL SERVICES TO TIMPHISINI INKHUNDLA

By NOKUPHILA HAJI | 2025-01-20

OVER 400 people from Timphisini Inkhundla received free medical attention from the government of the Republic of China (Taiwan).

The Taiwan Medical Mission, Taiwan Embassy, Taiwan Technical Mission and Taiwan Africa Vegetable Initiative (TAVI) jointly held the medical health outreach at Timphisini Primary School on Saturday.

At least 455 people attended the outreach service, where they received free medication, con and a five kilogramme bag of rice from the Embassy of the Republic of China (Taiwan).

When making the donation, Minister of the Taiwan Embassy Ching-lin Tsuei said Taiwan was one of the first countries to establish diplomatic ties with Eswatini after its independence.

He stated that since then, the relationship between the two countries has not only been cordial but also strong enough to withstand the test of time through both challenges and successes.

“What has kept us together all these years is a relationship built on a strong bond of friendship, respect, shared values and trust among our people.

It is with great pleasure that we visited Timphisini to provide free medical consultations, screenings, check-ups, medication and to promote awareness on healthcare,” he said.

Tsuei stated that the embassy, along with the technical and medical missions, had established strong partnerships, including the business community.

He said they had enhanced cooperation in various areas, such as public health, trade and investment and agriculture.

“We have also collaborated in the fields of education, information communication and technology, which has produced fruitful results,” he stated.

Tsuei stated that Taiwan would continue to initiate and deepen exchanges with Eswatini across various fields, building on existing cooperation to enhance the well-being of both nations.
Appreciation

Meanwhile, Timphisini Member of Parliament Thulani Nsingwane expressed appreciation to Their Majesties for fostering relationships with the government of Taiwan.

He noted that they faced serious medical challenges at Timphisini as they had only one clinic, which is Horo.

“The residents are forced to make use of Mayiwane Clinic and the Pigg’s Peak Government Hospital,” he said.

Medication
Nsingwane stated that they frequently ran out of medication due to the poor state of the country's pharmaceutical supply system.

“We see the minister attempting to address the situation, but it is not easy if the pit was dug deeper. Filling it is more challenging than digging it out.

“We appreciate government and Their Majesties for finding such friends for the nation who consider us Emaswati,” he said.

He, however, appealed to government to consider constructing a hospital in the area.
Nsingwane stated that the residents received medication, which left them happy.
He also expressed gratitude for the rice donation.

An elderly woman, Emelinah Gwadze gifted the minister with a mat.
She said this was a form of appreciation for the support the Taiwanese government had provided her.

She mentioned that last year, the minister visited the area and presented her with a gift.
Another resident, Daniel Mavuso appreciated the initiative by the government of Taiwan, adding that a lot of people needed assistance in the rural areas.
