BANGLADESHI COMMUNITY SPREADS FESTIVE JOY TO 150

By SIBUSISO DLAMINI | 2024-12-30

THE Bangladeshi community in the country, together with Prince Bandzile, donated food packages to 150 people under the Esilindzini chiefdom, bringing Christmas cheer to the community’s most underprivileged.

The donation, hosted at the royal kraal under the leadership of Chief Madubane Magagula yesterday, provided recipients with essential items, including maize meal, sugar, salt, cooking oil, juice, and soap.

The beneficiaries according to Indvuna Joseph Mgabhi, were selected through a database compiled by community social workers, ensuring the aid reached those most in need, Speaking on behalf of the Bangladeshi community, Mohammed Shabab Uddin Chowdhury expressed gratitude for the warm reception they have received in the country.

“Eswatini is now our home too, and knowing that some cannot enjoy the festive season because of what they lack motivated us to help,” said Chowdhury. The community also praised the country’s peaceful environment, cultivated under the guidance of Their Majesties.

They credited this stability with enabling their businesses to thrive and improving their quality of life. Chowdhury added that the Bangladeshi community was committed to contributing to the country's development.

“We believe in His Majesty’s vision for Eswatini to become a first-world nation. Through unity and peace, as demonstrated by Emaswati, we believe this goal is achievable,” he said, emphasising that the Bangladeshi community’s donation not only aimed at addressing immediate needs, but also underscored their commitment to the country’s broader vision.

Their involvement in cultural events, alongside their support for local communities, he said, reflected their integration and appreciation of Eswatini’s traditions and values.

“As Eswatini continues its journey towards first-world status, initiatives like this highlight the power of collaboration and shared purpose in achieving national development goals,” he stated.
Although Prince Bandzile was unable to attend the event due to prior commitments, he was represented by Smilo Dlamini from the Inkhanyeti regiment.

Speaking through Dlamini, the prince commended the Bangladeshi community for their generosity and spirit of giving. “I am delighted to learn of this initiative through Roman Chowdhury, known as ‘Sigeja’ in the regiment.

His patriotism and dedication to Emaswati and their culture are commendable,” said the prince. Prince Bandzile also praised the collaborative effort, which he said embodied the Christmas spirit by bringing joy to those who might otherwise face a grim festive season due to poverty.

He urged the community to continue with their efforts, highlighting the importance of unity and mutual support in driving the country’s development.
