OUTGOING MC PROMISES SUPPORT

By MELUSI MLOTSA | 2024-11-27

SOCCER - NO hard feelings, as 'Birds' of the same feather fly together! The capital city giants outgoing Management Committee has extended an olive branch after the dramatic meeting held on Monday.

They have moved swiftly to wish the Mbabane Swallows brand a continued success as it remained committed to supporting the club through thick and thin. Members of the former committee have reiterated their support to the team in attending matches and cheering it on.

“It is important to reiterate that Mbabane Swallows Football Club and Mbabane Swallows (Pty) Ltd are two distinct entities. The latter has now assumed full operational control of the club, as was the case during the tenure of the late Victor Gamedze,” reads a statement from the outgoing committee.

Going forward, the continued sponsorship agreements would depend on negotiations between managers of Mbabane Swallows (Pty) Ltd and the club’s sponsors. The status of ongoing and planned club projects remains uncertain and would become clearer with time.

“Players received half of their September salaries and no October salaries. It was anticipated that the CAF participation money would be released in time to cover the players' salaries, as we were committed to their welfare. Unfortunately, the CAF payment process is known to be time-consuming.

All available funds were directed towards covering CAF logistics. The club was operating at a negative financial balance. We are deeply grateful to our strategic partners and Archbishop Bheki Lukhele for their unwavering support during this period, providing essential assistance that helped sustain the team by covering a portion of the club's expenses,” they said.

The handover meeting between members of Mbabane Swallows (Pty) Ltd and Mbabane Swallows FC was an emotional experience for the outgoing Management Committee.

They said the intensity of the moment prompted heartfelt responses that, while still subject to ongoing negotiations between the involved parties, deeply reflected the profound connection and passion for the club.

“The outgoing Mbabane Swallows FC committee remains loyal and transparent to the club’s brand and all pending assets are to be handed over for continuation of the club’s operations.

“As we mark the end of our term, we immensely appreciate all stakeholders who made our operations successful during our tenure; we achieved all the listed successes because of your support.

We further affirm that as we vacate office, we remain Mbabane Swallows FC at heart, hence we will continue supporting the team's activities without interfering in its operations,” the statement read.

The press release and commitment of the ex-MC comes in the wake of the Absalom Ngwenya-led committee stating succinctly that they would take the Mercedes Benz Sprinter bus and clubhouse with them. They had stated that the handover deal only involved the players, not other assets.
