SOCCER - MBABANE Swallows attacking midfielder Mxolisi ‘Given' Lukhele has thanked all football stakeholders for the support he received while at his lowest ebb.
This follows his first public appearance after being involved in a car accident that resulted in him losing his arm.
He was eventually discharged from hospital last Friday.
The player watched the Mbabane derby on Sunday at Mavuso Sports Centre where Mbabane Swallows beat Mbabane Highlanders 2-1.
Lukhele was involved in a car accident along the Buhleni-Msahweni public road while returning from watching a football match at Mkhuzweni Technical Centre.
He was admitted to Pigg's Peak Government Hospital, where he underwent surgery. Doctors made the decision to amputate his arm after consulting with other medical experts.
"I would like to express my appreciation to everyone who has been there for me during my sad situation. I am happy with all footballers and the fans, who showed me love during this difficult time.
Even though I never thought that their support would make a difference in my healing, it did. To Mbabane Swallows management and players, thank you for everything you have done for me ever since I was admitted to hospital. I am short of words and God knows how grateful I am,’’ he said.
Lukhele said when he was admitted, fans and players were coming in their numbers to visit him, even though he couldn’t speak at times, but was happy to see them. That made him believe there was more to life despite his situation.
He also appreciated the Pigg's Peak Government Hospital staff for their hospitality. He mentioned that he was expecting anything to happen to him while admitted, but everyone who was there for him made a difference in his life.
“Nkulunkulu ukhona and I have seen him in my life; I thank God for my life and kute lokulahlekile. “I am still that same ‘Given’ despite everything. God knows better," he said. Lukhele said he would have loved to spend more time with fans at the stadium but he was still not fit.
“The support was great and if I had fully recovered, I would have spent more time with the fans. Please support even the other players who need help, especially Melusi ‘Mega’ Magagula, who is still struggling with his vision," he said.
