SOCCER - GUINEA Bissau head coach Luís Boa Morte has announced his 24-man squad for the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2025 Qualifier against Eswatini featuring a strong selection of Europe-based players.
The match scheduled for November 15 is critical for Guinea-Bissau as they sit third in Group I with four points, needing to secure wins in both remaining games to keep their qualification hopes alive. Eswatini, on the other hand, occupies the bottom spot in the group and has no chance of advancing to the finals.
A key inclusion in Boa Morte’s squad is Everton striker Beto, who brings Premier League experience and a powerful presence up front. In a notable change, Boa Morte has opted to leave out forward Romário Baldé, calling up Elves Baldé instead. Midfielders Carlos Mané and Moreto Cassamá, who missed the last qualifying rounds, also make their return to strengthen the team's midfield options.
The defensive line-up includes 20-year-old left-back Augusto Dabo from Boavista, a promising addition who has developed his skills in Portugal's top division. Dabo joins an experienced roster that will start a training camp in South Africa on November 11, aiming to acclimatise and prepare for the two decisive matches. Following the game against Eswatini, Guinea-Bissau will return home to Bissau to host Mozambique on November 19, in the final match of the group stage.
With the stakes high, Boa Morte’s side is set for an intensive week as they aim to secure a place in the AFCON 2025 finals. Guinea-Bissau’s focus will undoubtedly be on maximising their attacking prowess, and with Beto leading the frontline, the team hopes to capitalise on their Europe-based talent to boost their AFCON qualification hopes.
