SOCCER - MBABANE Swallows had to fight very hard to restore confidence in the team to come out victorious against Green Mamba, despite the low morale in the team.
The team’s head coach Caleb Ngwenya attributed the win to the good fighting spirit among the players, especially the two wingers Siyabonga Zwane and Sizolwethu ‘Nunu’ Shabalala. The capital city giants went on to beat Green Mamba 1-0 during a game played at Mavuso Sports Centre on Saturday.
In the past few weeks, Mbabane Swallows suffered a huge blow after the injury of their attacking midfielder Mxolisi ‘Given' Lukhele, who was involved in a car accident.
This led to the Public Relations officer (PRO) Knowledge Ngwenya requesting the team’s stakeholders to bear with them as they put the pieces together as they resumed action after the FIFA break.
The coach introduced the two wingers in the second half and they were the game changers despite that the goal scorer Bongikhosi ‘Karas' Dlamini was a menace to the opposition, but the two, with their speed, also contributed a lot to the triumph.
Ngwenya said he appreciated all the players for their performance and congratulated them for the positive results.
“Our wingers helped us and I would like to appreciate all the players as they showed up and we played according to our game-plan. Congratulations to our opponents for giving us a good run. It was a tough game and we had a couple of chances but we missed them," he said.
On the other hand, Green Mamba head coach Ernest Mavuso said Swallows gave them homework and they would do it.
Mavuso said it was a tough game and they started well but were not able to convert the chances.
“Despite losing the match, I would like to congratulate my boys as they fought so hard. It was not our day and we were losing the ball cheaply. Otherwise, we will correct our mistakes in future, the journey is still long," said Mavuso.
