MOKENKOANE RETURNS TO BULL'S KRAAL

By JONGILE XUBA | 2024-09-22

SOCCER - South African striker Thabiso Mokenkoane sealed a sensational return to Mbabane Highlanders on registration deadline day.

Mokenkoane, who has had a successful run with the Eswatini giants in previous seasons, was among the standout moves confirmed on deadline day, much to the delight of Highlanders fans eager to see him back in action.

The goal poacher was on the books of Botswana giants Township Rollers when he re-joined the black and white outfit.

Locally he has played for Mbabane Swallows and Manzini Wanderers. The seasoned forward’s return was just one of several significant transfers that took place before the midnight cut-off yesterday.

Midfielder Enzo Motsa also completed his move to Mbabane rivals Ezulwini United, where he will be joined by fellow recruit Innocent Adja.

Both players are expected to bolster the squad as they gear up for the season ahead.
Another notable transfer saw Banele ‘Banny’ Mdluli secure a season-long loan move from Green Mamba to newly promoted Sisonkhe. The versatile player is expected to be a key figure for the team as they adjust to top-flight competition.

Meanwhile, winger Kwanele Shongwe switched clubs, leaving Lozitha Spurs to join Green Mamba. Shongwe’s pace and creativity on the flank will undoubtedly strengthen Green Mamba’s attacking options as they aim for silverware this season.

While these moves captured the attention of fans and pundits alike, many clubs had a relatively quiet deadline day. However, behind the scenes, several teams were still working to finalise their transfer business, racing against the clock to meet the midnight deadline.

Eswatini Football Association (EFA) Communications and Marketing Officer Muzi Radebe said since the process had now been automated and was done online, yesterday’s registration went well with teams still busy as they looked to beat the deadline.

“We did not receive any calls for assistance with registration from clubs as they all had been trained on how to complete registration. We will provide a full report on how it went once the process has been completed,” he said.

Highlanders have been one of the busiest teams in the market as they have acquired the services of Mpilonhle ‘Loshy’Khumalo, Majahasibili ‘Giggs’Ndlovu, Kwezi Matsebula, Muhle Siyaya, Mphucuko ‘Smothies’Dlamini, Ciniso Nyawo to mention but a few.

Newcomers Sisonkhe also had made nine signings which included Lunga Ndlovu, Melusi Mkhwanazi, Sibane Mdluli, Mlandvo Tsabedze, Lungelo Simelane, Mangaliso Dube, Vusi Mavuso and Makhosi Mtetwa.
