SOCCER - The Hhohho region’s representatives, Timphisini, emerged victorious in the Tinkhundla Talent Search finals after a thrilling 3-2 win over Lomahasha from the Lubombo region yesterday afternoon at the Somhlolo National Stadium.
The northern Hhohho-based team not only took home the prestigious title, but also secured a cash prize of E70 000 for their outstanding performance throughout the tournament.
The match which was attended by members of Parliament and other football officials, saw Timphisini taking the early initiative.
Despite creating several chances, it took 17 minutes for them to break the deadlock.
Right winger Sindiswa Mamba was fouled inside the box, earning a penalty. Thando Ndwandwe stepped up and calmly converted the spot kick to give Timphisini the lead.
Lomahasha, however, responded before the half-time whistle.
Sakhile Sifundza levelled the score with a well-timed header from a Tom Maphanga cross, putting the two teams on equal footing.
The momentum shifted further in Lomahasha’s favour when Sanele Ngwenya beat Mphumelelo Maseko to put his team ahead just before the break.
In the second half, Lomahasha, under the guidance of Manzini Wanderers Ladies team coach Bongani Makhukhula, pressed hard in search of an equaliser.
Their persistence paid off in the 74th minute when Ayanda Sibiya converted a penalty, restoring parity.
With the match hanging in the balance, both teams continued to push for a winning goal. Just before full-time, Timphisini found the breakthrough they needed. Mcondisi Magagula capitalised on a goalmouth scramble to score the decisive goal, sealing a memorable 3-2 victory for his team.
