By MGCINI DUBE | 2024-09-01

SOCCER - AFTER a long wait, the Eswatini Football Association (EFA) has officially unveiled Zdravko Logarušic as the new Head Coach of Sihlangu Semnikati.

The announcement was made yesterday at the EFA Technical Centre, where the Croatian coach was introduced by EFA President Peter ‘Samora’ Simelane and Vice President Steven Horton. Logarušic has been handed a two-year contract, taking over from the recently sacked Young Buffaloes Head Coach, Dominic Kunene.

Logarušic will be supported by Sifiso ‘Nuro’ Ntibane, who has been leading the team since Kunene's departure. In his remarks, EFA President Simelane acknowledged the anticipation surrounding the announcement and expressed confidence in Logarušic’s ability to lead the national team with diligence.

“This was the moment that the nation was waiting for with great anticipation. We are happy that we have finally announced the coach, who we believe is the rightful person to lead the national team,” he said.

The president further thanked the patience shown by the various stakeholders and fans during the selection process.

“We appreciate the patience from all relevant stakeholders while we were still searching for the right candidate.

The coach has our full support and will be working with the rest of the technical bench that has been put in place. We believe he will hit the ground running and take the country to greater heights,” added Simelane.

Logarušic who previously managed Al Batin FC in Saudi Arabia’s Second Division and led Zimbabwe to the AFCON finals, expressed his gratitude and readiness to take on the challenge.
“I am grateful for being appointed to this position, and I am ready to take the team forward,” Logarusic said.

“I have watched the team play on several occasions and believe they have so much talent. I am ready to work with the rest of the team and incorporate a few ideas. Having worked with various national teams in Africa, I am prepared for the task ahead. The goal is to improve results because the foundation is already there.”

Logarušic a UEFA PRO License holder brings a wealth of experience, having led Sudan to a third-place finish in the CHAN competition and coached multiple national teams across Africa.

His appointment marks a new chapter for Sihlangu Semnikati as they look to build on their existing potential and achieve greater success under his leadership.
