E6.5M PACKAGE FOR MTN PREMIER LEAGUE

By JONGILE XUBA | 2024-09-18

SOCCER - MTN Eswatini has reaffirmed its commitment to supporting local football by announcing a significant E6.5 million sponsorship ahead of the 2024/2025 Premier League of Eswatini (PLE) season.

This sponsorship marks the third installment of the E19.5 million package, positioning MTN as the title sponsor for yet another season.

The announcement was made by MTN Eswatini CEO Wandile Mntshali during a press conference held yesterday at the company’s headquarters Mahlalekhukhwini House in Ezulwini. Speaking about the ongoing partnership with the PLE, which has spanned over two decades, Mntshali expressed the company’s pride in continuing its backing of local football.

“We’re thrilled to power the PLE once again, bringing fans closer to the action.
This year’s sponsorship package will be E6.5 million, and we are looking forward to yet another exciting installment of the season. We wish all the teams the best of luck, and may the best team win,” he said.

Mntshali also hinted at future innovations, revealing that MTN is working towards ensuring that transactions at stadiums become cashless, facilitated by their Mobile Money (MoMo) app.
double-header

The 2024/2025 Premier League season kicks off today with a double-header at Mhlume Stadium, marking the official start of what is expected to be a thrilling campaign.

The National First Division will also see action, adding further excitement to the day’s events.
Representing the PLE was Executive Member Sicelo Mkhonta who expressed the league’s gratitude for MTN’s continued faith in Eswatini football.

“We are excited as PLE that the partnership with MTN is still ongoing. We understand that this is not just a social responsibility programme but a partnership that should benefit both sides, and we promise to continue ensuring that MTN gains value from this sponsorship,” Mkhonta said.

He added that the upcoming season promises plenty of action, with new talent set to emerge following a highly competitive pre-season tournament.

Mkhonta urged fans and clubs alike to support the league by utilising MTN’s products and filling stadiums to cheer on their teams.

“If the 8Bet Trade Fair Cup is anything to go by, teams are geared up for the league, and there will be a lot of new faces and talent on display. We hope fans will come out in large numbers to witness the excitement,” Mkhonta added.

As Eswatini's football community eagerly awaits the kick-off, the partnership between MTN Eswatini and the PLE continues to provide a solid foundation for the growth and success of the sport in the country.
