KING CONGRATULATES CANADA PRIME MINISTER

By Simon Shabangu | 2021-09-25

Lozitha HIS Majesty King Mswati III has congratulated Canada’s re-elected Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and the new government for winning the country’s elections recently. His Majesty was speaking at Lozitha Palace when receiving letters of credence from Canada’s High Commissioner to Eswatini Caroline Delany yesterday. His Majesty said Eswatini will continue to support the government, as the two countries’ bilateral relations date back to many years.

“Eswatini will continue to support the new government as we have been doing. Your coming to represent your country in Eswatini will further strengthen the already existing bilateral relations,” he said. His Majesty also appreciated Canada for their contribution to the global fund to fight HIV and AIDS in Africa.

His Majesty said Eswatini has benefited immensely from the fund, noting that many lives have been saved through the funding from Canada among other nations. He said Canada has also contributed in the country’s fight against the COVID-19 pandemic, which he said has disrupted the country’s plans to develop to a First World status.

He said despite the challenges, which have derailed the country’s plans, Eswatini is not deterred and will continue to pursue the goal of becoming a First World country in the future. “We will be looking up to friendly countries like Canada for support and information sharing as you have already reached the First World status. You have a lot to share with us and such support will be greatly appreciated,” his Majesty said.

On another note, His Majesty received letters of credence from the Ambassador of the Kingdom of Belgium to Eswatini Didier Vanderhasselt. His Majesty appreciated the ambassador for the words of comfort he extended to Eswatini for the loss of the former Prime Minister Ambrose Mandvulo Dlamini, two Cabinet ministers and High Commissioner to South Africa and the many Emaswati who succumbed to the COVID-19 pandemic.

His Majesty said the pandemic has done a lot of harm to the economy, stating that some people even lost their jobs due to the pandemic. He said the nation was harshly affected by this pandemic, and hoped that with all the support the country is receiving from friends of the kingdom like Belgium, the pandemic will soon be a thing of the past. “The COVID-19 pandemic has changed our way of life the world over, and Eswatini has not been spared.

These changes came along with a number of restriction which in turn dealt a huge blow to economy. We thank Belgium and the many countries which have contributed in the fight against this pandemic through providing vaccines. We believe that with the high number of vaccinated people, life will go back to normal,” His Majesty said.
